Tracks may have associated 'shape' information, where the shape points have geographic Locations (Grid Refs) in the same way as the Track endpoints
The Shape information is purely to allow more pleasing representation of the Track on a map; it's really a series of cosmetic intermediate waypoints so that software can draw the Track as a zig-zag or curve or whatever. You wouldn't need any Shape points on a straight Track segment.
Note that a Location used for a Shape point might also be associated with a Feature, like a gate or signpost. However, it would normally only be associated with one Track - or else that would be a junction and ought to be the endpoints of two or more Tracks!
When entering Shape points into TrailWise, take care to get your new points in the right order from 'start' to 'finish'. The system cannot tell whether a Track should take a gentle curve or wildly zig-zag up a mountainside, so it will not attempt to alter the order you tell it.
