FAQ 17: How do I register myself online with TrailWise ?

Members of some Eligible Bodies (see 'Eligible Bodies' FAQ) can create their own registration online by filling in the form brought up with the 'Register' button in the menu. The process is usually self explanatory, however if you have difficulty, some of the following may help.

If you had an account on the GLASS Wayfinder project, you should test for an account by trying to reset it by using your old Wayfinder username to log in. Your old password won't work at first, but you'll be able to recover a password to your email address.
Perhaps you no longer have access to the email address you used before, to which a password message would be sent; you should not try to re-register, but contact us using the 'Contact' form and supplying a few details to identify yourself - we can always redirect to your new email address. ONLY if your old account was not transferred should you try to set up a new one. If in doubt, ask us!

Registrations can be created online only after your details are encrypted into a Registration Key by your own organisation. This will not usually happen in the same week as your joining of the organisation. Details of this key come to you from your organisation (usually your membership secretary or delegate) and are not available to TrailWise Administrators.

GLASS members wishing to use TrailWise should email trailwisevalidation@glass-uk.org to obtain a registration key. You will need to supply your name, membership number and postcode as confirmation you are a GLASS member. A Keycode will then be sent to you.

This key provides a check on your details, which means the information you give in the TrailWise registration form must match that you used to join or renew with your organisation. If your details are incorrect e.g. wrong postcode you will usually need to sort this with the person that issued you with the Key code.

The details you will need to register are: -

  • Name
The name used on your membership with your organisation. This is case specific with the first letter always being a capital. If your name is capable of having a mixture of cases, you may need to experiment with combinations. Du-Maurier or Du-maurier for example.
  • Logon name:
This is entirely your choice but should be memorable for you and, to avoid having password 'reminder' prompts triggered to your email by another user, should NOT be anything too common like a simple personal name.
  • Password:
This is entirely your choice but must contain only alphabetic or numeric characters.
  • Email address:
Make sure this is a real email account that you can collect mail from. If you supply a faulty address, or later forget which account you used, you may not be able to access the system.
  • Organisation:
Only members of some organisations can register online. If your organisation isn't on the list, you could ask your membership secretary if they'd like to join the scheme.
  • Membership Number:
(of your organisation.) You don't have to provide this at first registration, if you don't have it hand. It's strongly advised though - when the time comes later to check for your continuing entitlement, it will be needed.
  • Post Code:
The one that your organisation has on file for you. Be careful not to confuse numerical 0 and the letter O or the number 1 and I (capital i) or l (lower case L), be sure to use spaces in the accepted way.
  • Reg Key:
This is the 'magic code' supplied to you by your eligible organisation. If you do not have a code, you should ask your membership secretary. TrailWise cannot issue these directly.

The 'Data Protection' FAQ describes what will be done with the information you provide, in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
